You can safely log back in after restarting computer and Office will show you as both Activated and Requiring Activation but you will still have all features and that annoying activation pop-up will no longer bug you every time an Office app is opened. Solution: Just log out and you can activate using just an activation key by itself. I did some more reading and apparently Office 2016 Pro Plus is a MSDN product really only for commercial users, not regular consumers, and logging in with an email account screws with Office products if they are activated by key only and not also a MS account. When I signed out, the notification to activate went away and the one that said “activated” stuck around.
